This original series by Movistar Plus+, in collaboration with Portocabo and filmed in A Coruña, has joined an awareness campaign promoted by the Port Authority, incorporating the initiative into the storyline of the series itself.
Ardora, an original Movistar Plus+ production in collaboration with Portocabo and shot in A Coruña, has joined the awareness campaign led by the Port Authority of A Coruña, which includes the installation of 40 brass plaques in various locations across the Marina and O Parrote—port areas open to public use.
These plaques are part of an informational initiative reminding citizens that many street drains and grates lead directly to the sea, meaning any waste thrown into them ultimately pollutes the marine ecosystem.
With the message “Do not throw anything away. The sea starts here,” the campaign aims to highlight the impact of everyday actions and encourage responsible behavior in urban and port environments.
The production Ardora has chosen to reinforce this message by integrating it into its audiovisual narrative. In fact, the series features one of these plaques in its scenes, incorporating the initiative into its fictional universe as part of its commitment to sustainability.
To minimize its environmental impact, Ardora has implemented a Sustainability Plan covering pre-production, filming, and post-production. A results report will also be produced, including the calculation of the production’s carbon footprint, as well as the sustainability measures adopted and their effectiveness. This calculation will be verified by an independent external entity to ensure its validity.
In addition to this comprehensive plan, the production has worked with Ana de Aspe from La Tribu Verde as an eco-manager and has applied specific sustainable filming protocols, reinforcing Movistar Plus+’s commitment to responsible content production.
As part of this collaboration, the Port Authority presented the series’ team with one of the plaques featured in the storyline, symbolizing the connection between the audiovisual sector and environmental awareness.
The president of the Port Authority of A Coruña, Martín Fernández Prado, praised Movistar Plus+ and Portocabo for highlighting the importance of environmental care in Ardora, and expressed satisfaction that the series helps raise awareness of the campaign through its depiction of the city’s waterfront.
Meanwhile, Alfonso Blanco, CEO of Portocabo, emphasized the strong collaboration with the port during filming: “For Ardora to be a realistic series connected to A Coruña, the port had to be part of the story. It is an essential element of the city, which is why we included it as one of the key settings. We also wanted to visually integrate this real-life campaign, which we found very inspiring. At Portocabo, we have long been implementing sustainable practices in our productions, so incorporating it into the narrative made perfect sense.”
Raúl Bustamante Matías, Head of Institutional Relations at Movistar Plus+, added: “Movistar Plus+ is consolidating its position as a benchmark in more sustainable audiovisual production, with 46 productions implementing specific sustainability plans, reducing emissions by an average of 12%. In this context, Ardora goes one step further by turning that commitment into something tangible, directly integrating the message of this plaque into its narrative.”
A significant part of the series has been filmed in locations within the Port of A Coruña, which will play a prominent role in the story, reinforcing the presence of the city’s maritime and urban environment within the narrative.
The five-episode series Ardora is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Movistar Plus+ in 2027. Produced by the A Coruña-based Portocabo, it stars Carolina Yuste and Javier Gutiérrez, created by Pepe Coira and Fran Araújo (Rapa, Hierro), and directed by Jorge Coira.
The series centers on Estela, a court-appointed lawyer in A Coruña who must defend Aarón, a troubled young man accused of murdering a prominent local businessman. The case appears straightforward: all evidence points to his guilt, allowing Estela to focus on her complicated personal life. However, during the process, she must confront Luis, a police officer who, like her, is facing his own personal crisis and is determined to prevent her from uncovering the truth.
