The Port of Málaga will be the focus of an in-depth analysis in the summer course “The Port of Málaga in 360º”, an academic initiative במסגרת the Summer Courses programme of the International University of Andalusia (UNIA), developed with the collaboration of RETE – Asociación para la Colaboración entre Puertos y Ciudades.
The course is organised by Pilar Figares (Málaga Port), María José Andrade, Professor of Architecture at the University of Málaga and member of RETE’s Scientific Committee, and Elvira Maeso, Professor of Engineering at the same university. It will take place on 29 and 30 June 2026 at the UNIA Technological Campus, located within the port area itself.
This training initiative offers a comprehensive approach to the Port of Málaga as a strategic infrastructure, highlighting its role in international connectivity, logistics development, and the transformation of the waterfront. Through a multidisciplinary perspective, experts from the maritime-port sector will provide insights into both operational dynamics and the port’s economic, urban, and environmental impact.

The programme is structured into seven thematic blocks, combining theoretical content with practical case studies to enable an applied understanding of the sector’s key challenges. These include the historical and territorial evolution of the port and its relationship with urban growth, port-city interface dynamics, port governance and public-private collaboration, as well as core port activities such as cargo traffic, cruise operations, passenger services, and associated activities.
The course also addresses critical future-oriented topics, including intermodal logistics, digitalisation, and the Smart Port concept, along with decarbonisation processes, circular economy strategies, and energy transition, all aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
The course is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students in fields such as engineering, architecture, economics, and geography, as well as professionals from the port, logistics, and public administration sectors seeking to update their knowledge and gain a strategic overview of one of Southern Europe’s key port hubs.
This initiative reinforces RETE’s commitment to knowledge dissemination and to fostering dialogue on port-city integration, promoting exchange among academia, industry professionals, and institutional stakeholders.
