The Port has already begun preparing for the third edition of this event. Around 3,000 visitors discovered the Port through guided tours, and 5,072 people ran in the RAC1 Race.

The Port of Barcelona closed the second edition of its Open Doors Weekend—held on May 17 and 18—with great success in terms of attendance. Over the course of those two days, more than 15,000 people enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to bring them up close and personal with the port’s infrastructure, including guided land and sea tours, family experiences, cultural and sporting events, and exceptional access to the APM Terminals Barcelona and Hutchison Ports BEST container terminals. As its President, José Alberto Carbonell, stated, “given the warm reception of the first two editions, the Port of Barcelona has already begun working on the next Open Doors edition. We want to make it an annual event.”

Some 3,000 people discovered the Port via its various guided-tour formats: maritime, theatrical, and land-based. The extended land tours provided first-ever access to the APM Terminals Barcelona and Hutchison Ports BEST container terminals. This unprecedented experience was highly valued by participants, offering a privileged glimpse into port operations and highlighting the strategic economic and logistical importance of the Port of Barcelona. The maritime tours aboard Las Golondrinas and the theatrical visits also received high praise, as did the exhibition of Port Police and Barcelona Fire Department vehicles.

On Friday, May 16, as a prelude to the Open Doors weekend, the new quay promenade at the Barcelona pier was inaugurated: a more than 13,500 m² public space that has quickly become a new meeting point at Port Vell. Over the weekend it hosted live music, food trucks, family workshops, and resting areas.

On the sporting front, the tenth edition of the RAC1 Race gathered 5,072 runners on Sunday, who ran a 6-kilometer course through the Port Vell’s most emblematic areas. David Campo and Paula Nueno emerged as the overall winners of an event that combined sport, live radio, and a festive atmosphere, coinciding with the radio station’s 25th anniversary.

Parallel activities also proved very popular, such as free admission to the Maritime Museum and the Museum of History, the RC Sailing University Regatta, and the Rumba Beach Festival. Likewise, the Moll d’Espanya area came alive with events including a gastronomic brunch at the Time Out Market, workshops and talks at the La Mar d’Activitats zone, and discounted access to the renovated Aquarium.

José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona, praised the public response: “Opening the Port to the public is not just a one-off action, but a continued commitment. This second edition cements the Port’s dedication to being understood, showcasing its activities, and strengthening its bond with the city. The tremendous turnout encourages us to press on with initiatives like the future Port Center, set to open in 2026, where we will continue to explain who we are and what we do.”

The initiative received support from leading members of the port community—APM Terminals Barcelona, Hutchison Ports BEST, MSC Cruises, and Balearia—whose contributions made these Open Doors Weekend activities possible.
