The Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz (APBC) is submitting to public consultation—through its publication today in the Official State Gazette—the project for the construction and operation of a leisure and recreation area and tertiary activities on a plot of land on Reina Sofía Pier, in the Cádiz basin, as part of the plan to integrate the Port into the city. The project was awarded by public tender to the company Edificarte Eventos, S.L., now operating under the name Grupo Vogel Hostelería y Ocio, S.L.
The plot, covering approximately 10,850 square meters, currently houses the repair and maintenance facilities of the container terminal on Reina Sofía Pier. These facilities will be relocated in the near future to their new location at the New Container Terminal. Therefore, the concession is conditional upon the relocation of the current container terminal from Reina Sofía Pier to the new infrastructure and the execution of urban development works in the area to provide general services.
The objective of the concession is to meet the demand for cultural activities, events, concerts, and similar initiatives, given the lack of suitable spaces in the city for such purposes. Approximately 66 percent of the area will be dedicated to open space and green areas, 28 percent to tertiary use, and the remainder to roadways.
The term of the concession is set at 25 years.
Once this mandatory procedure has been completed, progress can be made toward the final granting of the concession, which must ultimately be approved by the Board of Directors.
