The course on “Port cities’ sustainability” has an international scope and is aimed at everybody interested in the port cities problems and challenges. A space for training, dialogue and cooperation where knowledge, reflections and proposals are shared to make port cities more sustainable.
Organized by the University of Valparaíso, Public Administration School, the course is made up of four modules which can be taken as separate courses: Governance; Economy; Urban Planning, Environment, Heritage and Port Cities Perspective. 120 hours of classes (11 transferable university credits) taught via a virtual platform over five months, starting in July, by professionals and academics from various Latin American and European countries. Classes are held synchronously on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18h00 to 19h30, Chile time, plus one to two Saturdays per month. Each class is recorded so that it can be listened to later for students who have not been able to attend live. The teaching methodology combines lectures, workshops, talks and webinars. No prior learning or qualifications are required.
At the end of the programme the graduate will be able to:
- Gain a systemic understanding of port cities, from a comparative perspective at local, national and international level;
- Develop a critical reflection on the practices and instruments used by public and private institutions involved in the development of port cities;
- Propose tools to encourage the sustainable development of port cities in their different dimensions.
This course is developed in has collaboration with RETE and many other institutions such the International Association of Port Cities (AIVP), the Chilean Association of Port and Coastal Engineering and the Dutch universities TU Delft, Universiteit Leiden, Erasmus University of Rotterdam(Port City Future).
