The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has put out to tender the refurbishment works around the Clock Building, a project that will enable progress in the final urban development of this area and improve its integration with La Marina and the city.
The project has a budget of 1,817,929 euros, excluding VAT, fully financed by the APV, and will cover an area of 12,861 square metres, of which 1,756 square metres will be devoted to landscaped areas. The aim of the initiative is to enhance the surroundings of the Clock Building, which has been declared an Asset of Local Relevance, and to turn this space into a more welcoming area for public use and enjoyment.
The intervention, which has an execution period of nine months, includes the creation of landscaped areas, pergolas, shaded zones and new places for people to spend time, as well as the installation of urban furniture. In addition, the project includes a pavement design aimed at organising pedestrian routes and improving accessibility in the area.
More space for pedestrians and cyclists
The works, which are expected to begin at the end of the year, also include preserving the existing trees and renewing the lighting system, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and the environmental quality of the space at night. The intervention will also reduce the size of the current roundabout in order to gain more space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project area also includes the site of the former Casa de la Copa, whose demolition will allow for the landscape integration of the entire side square next to the Clock Building.
Port-city integration
This project forms part of the process to integrate the former dock area of the Port of Valencia with the city and will strengthen the role of the Clock Building surroundings as a meeting place, a space for civic activity and a point of connection with La Marina.
