The Port Authority of Almería (APA) has opened bidding for the works on the new facade of the administrative building and the development of 6,000 square meters around it. With this, the Port of Almería continues transforming the city’s waterfront after having developed nearly 4,000 square meters next to its headquarters at the Levante Wharf entrance. “The execution period for the project, which will open one hectare of port facilities to the public, is ten months, so the works will be completed before Christmas 2025,” detailed APA president, Rosario Soto.

The project budget is €3,629,051.26 (VAT included). It includes improving the energy efficiency of the APA headquarters with a new facade that will turn the building into an architectural landmark of the city. Additionally, the surrounding area and access to Levante Wharf will be urbanized, featuring walkable green areas with trees to provide shade, using common elements from the Paseo project to ensure a cohesive port-city integration. The project will utilize materials from Almería province, such as Macael marble and Dekton by Cosentino. The work will be funded by the port authority’s own resources and also by European Feder funds for the building’s sustainability.

“With this action, we will begin transitioning from planning to realization, resolving the longstanding debt the Port of Almería owes to the city: opening the port to the people of Almería,” noted Rosario Soto.

An efficient building

According to the project presented in June by APA president Rosario Soto and carried out by the joint venture Solutio Ingenieros – J2 Arquitectos, “this project transforms the APA building into the gateway to the port-city, evoking Almería’s maritime essence while being functional.”

The comprehensive renovation of the 1970s building facade, using a thermal envelope that fully covers and insulates the structure, along with materials like Dekton and recycled aluminum, will improve the building’s energy rating, making the APA headquarters a more sustainable building.
