More than 30 port-sector leaders will take part from 28 September to 2 October in a technical and institutional mission focused on port investment, international cooperation and the relationship between ports, cities and territories

RETE will participate as a co-organiser of the Morocco–Spain 2026 International Port Seminar, an initiative that will bring together more than 30 senior representatives and professionals from the maritime and port sectors for a five-day technical and institutional visit to both countries.

The event, scheduled to take place from 28 September to 2 October 2026, has been designed as an executive programme aimed at examining the transformation of the port sector, strengthening international cooperation and promoting development models capable of combining competitiveness, urban planning and territorial cohesion.

The programme will include technical visits, executive meetings, specialised sessions and high-level networking opportunities with port authorities, international organisations and representatives of the European, North African and Latin American maritime and port industries.

Cooperation between ports and cities

RETE’s participation will place the port-city relationship at the heart of the debate, addressing the challenges arising from the coexistence of port activities, urban planning, economic development and the quality of life of the surrounding territories.

During the seminar, RETE will deliver an institutional presentation outlining its international cooperation framework, its main areas of activity and the opportunities it offers port authorities, local governments, universities and organisations involved in the development of urban waterfronts.

The session will provide an opportunity to explore RETE’s role as an international network specialising in cooperation between ports and cities, as well as initiatives and collaborative models that could be applied in Latin America.

It will also present opportunities for new ports and cities in the region to participate in the projects, meetings and knowledge-sharing platforms promoted by the association.

Dialogue between the Americas and Europe

The programme will also include a joint discussion involving RETE, AIVP and AAPA LATAM, aimed at analysing the main challenges and opportunities associated with port-city relations in the Americas and Europe.

This strategic dialogue will facilitate the exchange of experiences in areas such as port governance, urban planning, institutional cooperation, sustainability, territorial integration and public participation.

The seminar is based on the premise that the ports of the future will require governance models capable of balancing the growth of maritime and logistics activities with the needs of the cities and communities that host them.

In this context, institutional cooperation, knowledge transfer and the development of international networks are essential to transforming shared challenges into opportunities for innovation and development.

An intercontinental delegation

The Morocco–Spain 2026 International Port Seminar aims to become a meeting point for port leaders from different continents, encouraging the exchange of experiences and the creation of partnerships between Europe, North Africa and Latin America.

Through its participation, RETE will reinforce its commitment to building more balanced, sustainable and cooperative relationships between ports, cities and territories.
