A period of one month is opened for the submission of contributions, which may be incorporated into the document for the tendering of the Master Plan.

The Bases will also be available from tomorrow on a specific web page for the project, which will include a suggestion box.

The citizen participation process will continue in the coming weeks with the Coruña Maritime Forum and five previous thematic workshops.

A Coruña, 5 March 2025
The development of the Coruña Marítima project enters a new phase with the distribution to the groups, entities and institutions of the city of the Strategic Bases that have been agreed upon with a view to the tendering of the Master Plan that will define the future of the spaces of the inner harbour.

This morning, the Rules were sent to more than 800 organisations. The recipients include social and cultural associations, professional associations, port companies, universities, public institutions, business groups, environmental groups and foundations, among others, port companies, universities, public institutions, business groups, environmental groups and foundations, among others. A letter from the Coruña Maritime Commission is attached, which summarises the current situation of the project and grants a period of one month for the presentation of suggestions or contributions that will be evaluated with a view to their possible inclusion in the definitive document of the Strategic Bases.

Likewise, the initial document of these Bases will be available to all interested parties from tomorrow on the website www.corunamaritima.com. This page will contain news about the project and the most relevant documents, and will have a suggestion box open to all citizens.

The Strategic Bases were approved on 24 January at the meeting of the Coruña Maritime Commission, in which the six administrations that are part of the project are represented, as well as the three municipal political groups. The six administrations are the City Council of A Coruña, the Xunta de Galicia, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the public business entity Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (ADIF), the public body Puertos del Estado and the Port Authority of A Coruña.

According to the content of the Bases, the new seafront should lead to an improvement of the city and the activities that remain in the inner harbour, which will basically be fishing, cruises, nautical and general merchandise, since the bulk and heavier traffics are in the process of being transferred to Punta Langosteira. Due to its historical, social and economic importance, emphasis is placed on the fishing sector, whose infrastructures and operational capacity will have to be reinforced in the reorganisation of the port areas.

The project will focus on improving mobility and the construction of new urban facilities, with special emphasis on environmental, landscape and metropolitan values. Thus, it is planned to take advantage of the existing tracks in the port which are in disuse to implement a suburban rail service, as well as to set up a transport interchange. It is also proposed to incorporate a large-capacity covered multi-purpose facility and another iconic building to characterise the intervention.

There will also be spaces for residential, tertiary and public uses, giving priority at all times to innovation and sustainability in the design, and favouring contact with the sea and the incorporation of new uses for the sheet of water. It will also require the protection and enhancement of the historical, industrial and archaeological heritage, helping to preserve the industrial and port identity and promoting landscape values.

In addition to sending the document to citizen groups and publishing it on the website, the Coruña Maritime Forum and five previous thematic workshops will be held over the next few weeks, with the same objective of encouraging citizen participation and gathering contributions.

With all this, the international multidisciplinary competition to define the Master Plan that will govern the transformation of the port and railway areas is expected to be held in April. This Master Plan must be proactive and innovative, and set out a medium and long-term vision, contemplating different development scenarios.
