The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz, Teófila Martínez, and the mayor of the city, Bruno García, have inaugurated today the exhibition The Dreamed Islands, by the painter from Cádiz, José Alberto López, installed on the dock fence.
The event had significant cultural and institutional representation from the city, highlighting the presence of the deputy representative of the Spanish Government in Cádiz, Blanca Flores; the vice president of the Provincial Council, Juan José Ortiz; the first deputy mayor, Juan Manuel Cossi; the naval commander, Jaime Boloix, and the Marine Infantry colonel and deputy defense delegate in Cádiz, Ángel Javier Umbría; among others.
The president of the Port Authority emphasized the importance of initiatives like this exhibition for the integration process of the port with the city to be successful, convinced that it cannot be solely an urbanistic action but must also include cultural and social integration.
The mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, stressed that initiatives such as the exhibition inaugurated today help to highlight the cultural character of the city and believes this is a step forward in the integration between the port and the city that will occur in the future and “in which culture must play a fundamental role.”
The author, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with being able to exhibit his work in “a privileged exhibition space” and thanked the writers and artists who helped him complete the exhibition for their collaboration.
The exhibition consists of thirty large-format images, three meters wide by two meters high, in which the artist offers a tour of the city, its most emblematic places and architectures, with the colorful vision that characterizes his work.
The illustrations that make up the exhibition are inspired by his series “QADIS 1001 NIGHTS”, inaugurated at the Castle of Santa Catalina in 2019, which on this occasion are enriched and reinterpreted, also adapting to the new format and exhibition space.
Twenty-five of the thirty panels incorporate text provided by writers and personalities from the society of Cádiz, with which the author seeks to enrich his artistic work with other disciplines.
Finally, the mayor highlighted the importance of actions like the one developed by the Port Authority and the institutional collaboration to grow through culture.
With this new initiative, the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz continues to work to bring port activity closer to society and promote the integration process of the port into the city.
