SUMMARY:Sport Events and Sailing for the Sustainable Development of Territories
DESCRIPTION:The aim of the initiative is to explore the potential of sporting events as drivers of sustainable development in its three dimensions: environmental\, social\, and economic\, with a particular focus on coastal regions and competitive sailing. \nSport has long been recognized as an effective vehicle for civic growth\, especially in the education of younger generations\, as well as a strategic tool within the One Health perspective\, contributing to the building of healthy and inclusive communities. \nFrom the perspective of territorial development\, sporting events have increasingly established themselves as tools for the promotion\, development\, and enhancement of cities and regions. Sailing\, historically considered a niche sport\, began to attract the general public in the 1990s\, when the America’s Cup\, once an event reserved for a small elite of yacht clubs and yachtsmen\, became a global media phenomenon. The 2007 edition of the America’s Cup in Valencia was particularly revealing of the potential of sailing regattas as a development driver. \nThe Regata dei Tre Golfi is an offshore race organized by the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia\, held annually since 1954\, starting from Naples and crossing the gulfs of Gaeta\, Naples\, and Salerno. The Tre Golfi Sailing Week was hosted in Capri for over twenty years\, then for several editions in Ischia\, and since 2022 it has successfully taken place in the waters off Sorrento\, attracting growing participation and international visibility. \nThe “City of Sailing and the Sea” project\, promoted by the V Zone Committee of the Italian Sailing Federation\, aims to promote and enhance the maritime and coastal heritage of the Campania region through the sport of sailing and by hosting national and international regattas. \n20 maggio 2025 Sorrento INVITO \nProgramme\nWelcome remarks\nMassimo Coppola | Mayor of Sorrento\nRoberto Mottola di Amato | President\, C.R.V.I. \nIntroduction and moderation\nMassimo Clemente | Scientific Director\, RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities; Director\, Institute for Construction Technologies\, CNR; \nSpeakers\nGabriele Carbonara | Professor of Business Economics\, University of Naples “Parthenope”\nDavid Pino | Director of Port Vell and Coordinator of the America’s Cup\, Port of Barcelona\nFrancesco Lo Schiavo | Former President of the V Zone Committee\, Italian Sailing Federation \nConcluding remarks\nAlessandra Priante | President\, ENIT SpA

SUMMARY:RETE will be present at the UNIA Summer Courses with sessions on "Port Cities: Integrative Urbanism"
DESCRIPTION:The International University of Andalusia (UNIA) will include the sessions “Port Cities: Integrative Urbanism” in its 2024 Summer Courses program. The event\, organized by the School of Architecture of Seville and RETE (Association for Collaboration between Ports and Cities)\, will take place on July 10 and 11 at the La Rábida campus\, located in Palos de la Frontera\, Huelva. \nRafael Carmona\, Vice President of RETE and the Port Authority of Seville\, explains that this technical meeting aims to “reflect on and analyze the interaction between ports and cities\, as well as the quality of life in port cities and their territorial\, economic\, social\, and cultural environments. At a time when many urban ports are transforming their contact areas with the city for public use\, it is crucial to broaden the analysis of these processes from a multidisciplinary and innovative perspective\,” he adds. Current examples are the Port of Seville\, which is defining a new port district\, and the Port of Huelva\, which seeks to open its industrial area to new uses integrated with the city. \nSimilarly\, the expansion of ports and their logistics areas towards regions far from cities highlights “the need for best practices in the interaction between infrastructure and the natural landscape\, balancing transport efficiency with respect for natural heritage and territorial regeneration\,” explains the Vice President of RETE. \nThe event\, directed by distinguished academics from the University of Seville Francisco Javier Terrados Cepeda and Ramón Pico Valimaña\, will focus on the development of integrative urbanism that allows for harmonious coexistence between port activities and urban life\, promoting sustainability and local economic development. \nThe event will feature experts who will develop the following program: \nWednesday\, July 10: “Small-Scale Ports in Andalusia. Population\, Rural Territory\, and Landscape\,” Fernando Copado García (Public Ports Agency of Andalusia); “Ports of General Interest in Andalusia. Challenges of Port-City Integration\,” Daniel Navas Carrillo (University of Málaga); and “Ecology of Ports and Their Transformations. The Case of Motril\,” Juana María Sánchez Gómez (University of Málaga). \nThursday\, July 11: “Ports as Economic Drivers of the City. Future Challenges\,” María del Mar Cerbán Jiménez (University of Cádiz); “Ekistics of the Urban Port. The Case of the Port District of Seville\,” José María de Cárdenas Domínguez-Adame (Technical Office of the Port Authority of Seville for the drafting of the Urban Port District Master Plan); and “Landscape Urbanism in Urban Ports. A Vision from Academia\,” Francisco Javier Terrados Cepeda (University of Seville). \nThis year’s offering from the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) consists of 39 proposals to be developed between July and September. It’s an opportunity to delve into topics ranging from the multiple facets of Artificial Intelligence (education\, business\, human rights\, health) to emotions\, sustainability\, gastronomy\, the water challenge\, the environment\, visual arts\, and poetry. \n“It is particularly positive that the UNIA includes the participation of the RETE Association in these courses\, as our collaboration provides an integral and specialized perspective on the relationship between ports and cities. The presence of RETE\, which includes ports from Spain and a large part of European ports\, enriches the debate and analysis on integrative urbanism\, allowing for a more effective approach to the challenges and opportunities of port cities in a global context\,” says its Vice President\, Rafael Carmona.

SUMMARY:“'The Port of Women. Women in the port and maritime sector why not?" The Project's photo exhibition hosted at the Chamber of Deputies
DESCRIPTION:From 19 to 23 February\, the Chamber of Deputies in Palazzo Montecitorio (Rome – Sala del Cenacolo in the Vicolo Valdina complex\,) will host a photographic exhibition dedicated to women’s work in the port and maritime sector. \nThe exhibition\, with photos by Elena Cappanera\, is part of the Project ‘The Port of Women. Women in the port and maritime sector\, why not?” conceived by Barbara Bonciani – VicePresident of RETE Italy and Councillor for the Port of the Municipality\, promoted by the Municipal Administration of Livorno in collaboration with RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, the University of Pisa and the Research Institute on Innovation and Services for Development of the National Research Council of Italy with the aim of raising awareness on the work carried out by women in two strategic sectors for Italy. \n \n“We are talking about sectors in which the female presence\, in addition to still being underrepresented\, is often also invisible\,” emphasises Barbara Bonciani. \n“Port work\, like maritime work\, was historically born male. For decades\, technological innovation processes have changed the organisation and way of working\, making these jobs fully accessible also to women’. However\, women in these sectors are still few: in the maritime sector they do not even account for 2% of the global workforce\, while in ports they account for 16% of the global workforce. \n“In Italy\, women working in ports account for 8% of the total workforce. The port of Livorno\, explains the Vicepresident of RETE Italia Barbara Bonciani\, is one of the ports with the highest female presence. Here\, women account for 10% of the total workforce\, exceeding the national average. It is just from here that we decided to start in order to make female workers in these sectors visible to a wide public\, to make their voices heard\, to share the passion with which they live their work\, to promote their skills and competences. The Project was also aimed at facilitating a constructive debate among those working in the sector in order to encourage all the actions necessary to remove the obstacles\, especially at the cultural level\, that still limit women’s access to employment in these sectors”. \nThe project was applauded by many European and national associations\, including the European Transport Workers’ Federation – ETF\, the Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals – FEPORT\, the European Sea Ports’ Organisation – ESPO\, and other associations at European and national level. Following the project in Livorno\, national conferences on this issue were developed and the port of Trieste recruited the first female port workers\, thus representing a successful initiative to strengthen the presence of women in the maritime and port sector. \nThe photographic exhibition will be inaugurated on 19 February at 4.30 p.m. in the presence of H.E. Mrs Laura Boldrini\, of the Mayor of Livorno\, Luca Salvetti\, and the Councillor of the Port of Livorno\, Barbara Bonciani. A delegation of port and maritime workers will be present.

SUMMARY:International Conference "Women's Port. Women in the maritime and port sector\, why not?"
DESCRIPTION:On 17th and 18th May in Livorno\, the Logistics Systems University Complex of Villa Letizia and the Museum of Natural History of the Mediterranean of Villa Henderson will host the International Conference ” Women’s Port. Women in the maritime and port sector\, why not?”. The initiative ispromoted and developed by the Municipality of Livorno\, RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, the Research Institute on Innovation and Services for Development of the Italian National Research Council (Cnr Iriss)\, and the University of Pisa\, under the patronage of the Tuscany Region and the Port System Authority of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea. \nAgenda MAY 17 \nAgenda MAY 18 \nThe conference is part of a vast project of international relevance that aims\, on the one hand\, to promote knowledge of the work done by women in the port and maritime sector to a wide public and\, on the other hand\, to foster the debate among stakeholders in the sector\, to increase the presence of women in ports and the maritime sector. The aim is to represent port and maritime work as an opportunity for women and future generations. \nEven though the presence of women in ports has undoubtedly been favoured by new technologies and equipment that have enabled women to start working in a field that for many years was considered predominantly – if not exclusively – male\, women’s employment in the maritime-port sector remains residual. Internationally\, women employed in the maritime sphere do not even reach 2%. \nThe conference is meant to contribute to bridging the gender gap in the maritime-port sector to make it more and more women-friendly\, by sharing experiences and good practices in several European ports and fueling a constructive debate between industry stakeholders\, research\, and institutional representatives. \nThe two-day event will start on May 17th at the Logistics Systems University Complex of Villa Letizia. The morning programme will include a debate between various operators working in the Port of Livorno. It will be the occasion to share the experiences of women who play strategic roles in the maritime-port sector\, and the testimonies of female port and maritime workers to address the issue of the future employment of new generations and future actions to overcome gender distinctions in the sector. The afternoon will be devoted to an in-depth discussion on automation\, digitalisation\, safety\, and training. On the same day\, the President of RETE\, Téofila Martínez Saiz\, will meet with Luciano Guerrieri\, the President of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority. \nThe international conference will be held on 18th May at the Mediterranean Museum of Natural History in Villa Henderson and will be attended by distinguished speakers at the European and national level. The President of RETE will participate in the panel discussion “The role of women in the port and maritime community. How to close the gap” together with Zeno d’Agostino\, President of the European Association of Ports and Harbours; Lamia Kerdjouudj\, Secretary General of Feport; Nicolette Van der Jagt\, Director General of CLECAT; Berardina Tommasi\, Policy Dockers ETF – European Transport Workers’ Federation. \nhttps://youtu.be/VEfOEsp2gGU \nAmong the representatives of the academia and institutions participating in the conference are several members of RETE who will take part in the round table “Redesigning the city for women: exchanges of urban experiences”\, chaired by Massimo Clemente\, director of Cnr Iriss and scientific director of RETE\, and moderated by Eleonora Giovene di Girasole (Cnr Iriss and RETE).  Participants in the debate will be: Carola Hein (TU Delft University – RETE); Maddalena Rossi (Department of Architecture\, University of Florence); Fulvia Pinto (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies\, Politecnico di Milano); Mina Akhavan (TU Delft University – RETE); Florence Andreola\, Founder Sex and the Cities Milan; Giuseppe Grezzi\, Councillor for Mobility and Councillor of Valencia City Council); Gabriella Esposito (Cnr Iriss). The conclusions will be entrusted to Barbara Bonciani\, Councillor for Port and Port-City Integration of the Municipality of Livorno\, member of the Governing Board and of the Scientific Committee of RETE. \n  \nThe conference will be streamed. SUMMARY:Conference "Governance and the Legal Regime Between Land and Sea"
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 16 May 2023\, at 18. 15\, at the Accademy of the High Seas in Naples\, a conference entitled “Governance and legal regime between land and sea” will be held\, organised by the Research Institute on Innovation and Services for Development (CNR-Iriss)\, the Rotary Club of East Naples and the Rotaract Club District 2101 – Italy\, the Academy of the High Seas and The International Propeller Clubs in collaboration with RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, the Friends of Molo San Vincenzo Association\, the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station\, the National Association of Engineers and Architects – Campania\, and ONTM – National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea. \nFourth and last meeting of the cycle dedicated to the sea in Naples\, as a resource for the metropolitan and regional territory\, the conference focuses on the critical issues of the legal and concessionary regime of the coastline\, inside and outside port areas. After years of implementation delays\, partly linked to objective specificities of the Italian legal and administrative system but partly fueled by monopolistic economic-productive sectors\, the prescriptions imposed by the European Union have now become inescapable. Starting from the regulatory framework\, in a perspective of subsidiarity that goes from the community level to the national level to the local level\, the initiative is proposed as an in-depth examination of the critical issues and possible solutions to combine the different instances of European competition and protection of national interests. \nThe conference will be preceded – at 5.00 p.m. – by a guided tour of the Navy Base and the San Vincenzo Pier\, the main offshore defense of the Port of Naples with great historical and cultural value. The initiative will be the occasion to present the project “Plassein: plastic recycling turns into art”\, aimed at first grade school students of Naples to raise awareness on the use of plastic\, environmental pollution\, and recycling. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Netherlands: 150th Anniversary of the New Waterway (Nieuwe Waterweg)
DESCRIPTION:The international research association PortCityFutures of the Leiden\, Delft and Erasmus university consortium is organizing the 50th Anniversary of the New Waterway (Nieuwe Waterweg)\, a three-day symposium to explore the past\, present and future of this channel that links Rotterdam to the North Sea. \nSpeakers from international universities and other experts will exchange knowledge about the future of port areas and the infrastructure of water systems and hydraulic works in coastal and riverine areas. These spaces at the edge of sea and land are constantly subjected to drastic changes in the landscape. This creates tension between economic growth and the required infrastructure on the one hand\, and the quality and sustainability of nature and living environment on the other hand. \nThe symposium will discuss how port areas\, water infrastructures and water management can and should change to create a new\, balanced and sustainable relationship between economic growth and the living environment in the long term.

SUMMARY:From 26 September to 1 October 2022 the international maritime cluster meets in Naples on the occasion of Naples Shipping Week
DESCRIPTION:After the success of the 2021 edition of Genoa Shipping Week\, Naples is taking over the baton of the international week of shipping and sea culture\, with the same organisational team – led by the Propeller Club Port of Naples and ClickutilityTeam – involving local\, national and international partners\, both public and private\, as always. \nThe relevance of the event\, of which RETE is once again a strategic partner\, is witnessed by the participation of eminent personalities from the international maritime community\, including Kitack Lim\, Secretary General of the IMO – International Maritime Organisation\, Emanuele Grimaldi\, President of the International Chamber of Shipping\, Joan Ribó i Canut\, Mayor of València\, and other mayors of important international port cities. \nThe fifth edition of the Naples Shipping Week (https://www.nsweek.com) will kick off on the morning of 26 September with the conference ‘The Sea and the City 5.0. Towards a shared planning of the port-city-coast-sea system’\, organised by CNR IRISS and the Propeller Club\, with the participation of the Port Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea\, the Master in Sustainable Planning and Design of Port Areas of the University of Naples Federico II\, aniai Campania\, and RETE – the International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities. \nIn the context of the Naples Shipping Week 2022\, the research group in Urban Planning of CNR IRISS\, coordinated by Massimo Clemente\, director of the Research Institute on Innovation and Services for Development of the National Research Council of Italy and director of the Scientific Committee of RETE\, is committed to developing the themes of sustainable development of coastal urban areas through the valorisation of the city’s maritime culture\, as representation of the collective memory. The research path is strongly rooted in the Institute’s study activities as well as in the history of the Naples Shipping Week. \nThe conference “The Sea and the City 5.0”\, marking the beginning of the NSW 2022\, will be opened by the keynote speech of Kitack Lim\, Secretary General of the IMO – International Maritime Organisation\, who also reconfirmed its participation in the fifth edition of Naples Shipping Week. The debate will continue with a discussion between the Mayors of national and international port cities\, including Gaetano Manfredi\, Mayor of the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Naples; Joan Ribó i Canut\, Mayor of València; Marko Filipović\, Mayor of Rijeka*; Luca Salvetti\, Mayor of Livorno; Anna Maria Cisint\, Mayor of Monfalcone*; Marco Bucci\, Mayor of Genoa; Michele de Pascale\, Mayor of Ravenna; and Roberto La Galla\, Mayor of Palermo*. \nThe second part of the day will be devoted to deepening the interdependencies between “The Sea and the Coast” and “The Port and the City” through discussions between experts from different disciplines such as law\, management\, economics\, engineering\, marine biology\, urban planning\, valuation\, and community psychology. \nOn the afternoon of 26 September\, at 5.00 pm at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples\, a meeting will be held on Molo San Vincenzo as a strategic resource for the city\, organised by CNR IRISS\, Propeller Club\, Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn\, Università Giustino Fortunato and RETE. Following the signing of the agreement last 28 June between the City of Naples\, the Italian Navy\, and the AdSP of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea\, a protocol is being implemented to gradually return the Molo to citizens\, first through heritage walks and then through the creation of a dedicated pathway\, made possible thanks to a funding of around EUR 6 million. \nThere will be many new features at this edition of Naples Shipping Week\, first of all that the NSW2022 will host two international events. BIC – Bureau International Containers has in fact announced that the world convention of the National Registration Organisations will be held in Italy\, in Naples\, for the first time. This event\, held every two years\, brings together all the bodies federated in the BIC and dedicated to issuing container markings. Delegates from Russia\, China\, Vietnam\, the United States\, Brazil\, Central and South America will discuss with their European colleagues solutions to the problems of intermodal transport\, tracking\, seals and rules on container dimensions and weights. The conference\, organised by the Centro Internazionale Studi Containers (C.I.S.Co.)\, the National Registration Organisation of reference in Italy\, will be open\, by invitation\, to all players wishing to address the problems associated with the development of intermodal transport across world borders. \nOn the occasion of NSW 2022\, YoungShip Italy has chosen to organise the first international meeting of young professionals in the blue economy. The Italian branch of YoungShip International – an international association with over 3\,000 members – YoungShip Italia is the reference point for young people working or studying in the maritime economy and industry. The international meeting will be a unique opportunity to foster the networking of young maritime professionals from all over the world who will be able to share their projects and experiences. \nGeopolitics\, sustainability\, technological innovation\, finance and the human factor will be the macro-themes addressed by the 14th edition of Port&ShippingTech(https://www.nsweek.com/programma-pst2022/)\, the International Forum dedicated to technological innovations for the development of the logistics and maritime system\, NSW Main Conference\, which will take place at the Maritime Station Conference Centre\, in presence and live streaming\, from 28 to 30 September 2022. Three days animated by meetings\, debates and updates on the most topical issues of the sector that will involve the main stakeholders of the Italian maritime cluster in a constant dialogue with Europe and the Mediterranean. \nAmong the topics discussed: \n\nThe systemic and economic challenges facing shipping in its various articulations\, from ships to ports. Funding\, cost structure\, national\, European and supranational regulations\, criticalities in the structure ofsupply and demand\, oligopolies\, vertical and horizontal integrations.\nEvolutions in communication and navigation systems (blockchain\, augmented reality\, cloud platforms\, edge computing\, internet of things\, maritime autonomous systems\, cybersecurity\, self-defence systems).\nDecarbonisation\, electrification\, self-production and energy efficiency\, abatement of emissions and reduction of waste from maritime transport and ports. The central role of the cruise sector.\nPartnership development plans and programs between ports and shipping companies\, synergies between sea tourism and local tourism.\nThe presentation of SRM’s Annual Report 2022\, which devotes great attention to trends in ports\, shipping and logistics in global maritime scenarios with a focus on the impact of pandemics and war on the Mediterranean.\n\nThe National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa on Friday 30 September will be the setting for the Dinner on the Gulf of Naples along the rails of the future\, the flagship event of Naples Shipping Week 2022. \nClosing Naples Shipping Week 2022 will be the conference “The Sea and the Water of Neapolis. Heritage Community Network for a diffused and shared museum” that will take place at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN). The conference\, organised by CNR IRISS\, The International Propeller Clubs and MANN\, is intended as an opportunity to present the research project focusing on the enhancement of the city’s “fresh water” and “salt water” routes through the construction of a diffuse and shared museum\, linking cultural sites related to the sea and water of Neapolis. \nThe entire programme of Naples Shipping Week is available on the initiative’s website at the following link: https://www.nsweek.com/agenda-nsw22/ \n* To be confirmed

SUMMARY:Presentation of the book 'Dialogues between port and city in the age of globalisation. For a multidisciplinary approach to port challenges"
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 18 May\, at the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development of the National Research Council of Italy (Cnr-Iriss) in Naples (and online as well)\, the volume “Dialogues between port and city in the age of globalisation. Towards a multidisciplinary approach to port challenges of ports” will be presented. The book\, the 12th in the “Research and Documentation” series of the Aldo Della Rocca Foundation\, is edited by Barbara Bonciani\, Port Councillor for the Municipality of Livorno\, member of both the Governing Board and the Scientific Committee of RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, Luisa Bordato\, Responsible of the Confcommercio Treviso Study Centre\, coordinator of the RETE “Advanced Nodes”\, and Eleonora Giovene di Girasole\, researcher at CNR-IRISS\, scientific secretary of RETE. \nThe book explores the theme of port cities with new approaches and perspectives\, with the aim of stimulating a constructive debate involving the academic world\, policy makers and stakeholders on the new challenges posed by the process of economic globalisation to ports and the effects they generate on maritime communities. Four macro-themes of research are discussed: “Urban transformations\, culture and society”\, “Governance\, economy and social responsibility”\, “Technological innovation\, sustainability and resilience” and “Reception\, migration and cultural contamination”\, tackled through both a theoretical and pragmatic approach. In each chapter of the book\, the authors address the issues in a multidisciplinary way\, both from a theoretical point of view and through emblematic cases concerning different port cities. \nThe book ends with some questions addressed to privileged witnesses – stakeholders from the world of ports and research – with the aim of updating and deepening themes addressed in the various contributions. The overarching objective is to define a future vision\, in which the city-port system is meant as a sustainable “ecosystem” oriented towards development processes\, both innovative\, cultural and creative\, and based on the circular economy\, also taking into account the intercultural intertwining typical of the city-port. \nThe presentation will begin with institutional greetings from Massimo Clemente\, Director of CNR-IRISS and Scientific Director of RETE\, who will have the pleasure of introducing Teófila Martínez\, President of RETE\, and Gian Aldo Della Rocca\, President of the Aldo Della Rocca Foundation. \nThe seminar\, introduced and moderated by Rosario Pavia of the Port Community of the National Institute of Urban Planning and member of the Scientific Committee of RETE\, will be the occasion for a discussion on the future of port cities with contributions from the editors Barbara Bonciani\, Luisa Bordato and Eleonora Giovene di Girasole\, some of the authors of the book including Nicola Martinelli\, Giuseppe d’Agostino\, Federica Montalto and Nicolò Montuori; Carola Hein; Giampaolo Vitali and Alga Danila Foschi; Maria Cerreta and Stefania Regalbuto; Olimpia Ferrara and Alessandro Panaro; Pietro Spataro; Fortuna Procentese and Caterina Arcidiacono; Alessandro Mazzola. \nThe conclusions will be drawn by Umberto Masucci\, President of The International Propeller Club\, Alessandro Castagnaro\, President of Aniai and Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II\, and Edoardo Cosenza\, Councillor for Infrastructures at Naples City Council and Professor at the Department of Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II \nResources \nProgramme: Programma_Dialoghi tra porto e città nell’epoca della globalizzazione_ \nStreaming: https://bit.ly/39eaYPW

SUMMARY:Seminar 'The social crisis in port cities after the global crisis'
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 12 May\, starting at 3 p.m.  CET\, the seminar “The social crisis in port cities after the global crisis” will take place in Livorno at the Cisternino di Città\, organised by RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, together with the Municipality of Livorno and the Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development of the National Research Council of Italy (Cnr-Iriss). \nThird appointment of the webinar cycle “Reading the complexity Port-City | The challenges of port cities after the pandemic in a multiscalar perspective”\, this seminar\, broadcasted in streaming on the YouTube channel of the Municipality of Livorno (http://www.bit. ly/3bqGyaD)\, will focus on the situation of strong social tension that Italian ports are experiencing today\, due to various factors including\, on the one hand\, the socio-economic effects produced by Covid 19 and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on port cities and territories\, and on the other hand\, the global dynamics concerning maritime transport (naval gigantism\, oligopoly and vertical integration of port terminalism) which have changed the organisation of work and generated uncertainty. These concerns have\, in some contexts\, been compounded by other factors\, unrelated to port issues\, but which have found a privileged space for expression in ports\, as in the case of the claims of the no-vax movements. \nPorts\, which act as strategic and driving factors for the country’s economy\, during the pandemic crisis have shown vulnerabilities of social interest that have not been immediately understood and interpreted. \nIn this context\, the seminar proposes to address the theme of “social issue” and work in ports and port cities within a framework of knowledge as complete as possible. Starting from the current situation of work in ports\, the initiative intends to highlight\, on the one hand\, the role of ports in terms of social stability of the cities and territories in which they are located and\, on the other one\, the effects generated by the global dynamics on the economic and social fabric of the ports themselves. \nThe debate will be moderated by Barbara Bonciani\, Councillor for Port and Port-City Integration of the Municipality of Livorno\, member of the Government Council and of the Scientific Committee of RETE\, and Massimo Clemente\, Director of CNR-IRISS and Scientific Director of RETE. \nSpeakers will include: \nAndrea Appetecchia\, Head of the Logistics and Goods Transport Observatory ISFORT – Higher Education and Research Institute for Transport \nMonica Bellandi\, port manager \nPaolo Dario\, former Vice-Chancellor for Third Mission at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna\, Pisa\, Director of Artes 4.0 \nLuciano Guerrieri\, President of the Port System Authority (AdSP) of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea \nFrancesco Mariani\, President of the Trieste Port Employment Agency\, Director of Ship Mag \nLeonardo Piccini\, Researcher IRPET – Regional Institute for Economic Planning of Tuscany region. \nThe day will continue at Sala Ferretti – Fortezza Vecchia where\, at 6.30 p.m. CET\, as part of the initiative promoted by the Propeller Club Port of Leghorn\, will be presented the volume “Dialogues between port and city in the era of globalization – For a multidisciplinary approach to port challenges”\, edited by Barbara Bonciani\, Eleonora Giovene di Girasole and Luisa Bordato. \nAgenda: Locandina_12 Seminario “La crisi sociale nelle città di porto dopo la crisi globale” \nFollow the event in streaming: http://www.bit.ly/3bqGyaD \nVideo webinar “The geoeconomic\, social and legal challenges of port cities after the pandemic”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_-sZRnvO6U \nVideo seminar “Gli global geoeconomic scenario and local dynamics”:

SUMMARY:Seminar "Global geo-economic scenarios and local dynamics".
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday April 20\, from 3.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m CET\, the seminar “Global geo-economic scenarios and local dynamics” will be held at the Research Institute on Innovation and Development Services in Naples.  This initiative falls within the webinars cycle “Reading Port City complexity | The challenges of port cities after the pandemic in a multiscalar perspective”. \nOrganised by RETE – International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities\, together with CNR IRISS and the Municipality of Livorno\, the seminar aims to promote\, through an exchange of knowledge and visions between the scientific community\, businesses\, associations and institutions\, a structured dialogue to foster the resolution of the conflicts that characterize port cities in the post-covid scenario. \nThe pandemic has highlighted the distorting effects produced on the market by the oligopoly: phenomena such as the blank sailing\, the dizzying increase in sea freight rates\, the lack of empty containers etc. are the obvious and tangible signs of this phenomenon. The impact of the pandemic on international trade has been relevant\, with a significant increase in the demand for products from China\, which has not been accompanied by a recovery in imports from the Asian country of the same tenor. The resulting shortage of containers for export to the rest of the world led to an exponential increase in container freight prices\, which became unsustainable for European and US importers. In a time of global economic crisis\, the oligopoly has favoured advantages for only one party. \nIn this complex scenario\, local dynamics and\, specifically\, the challenge of port cities’regeneration take on renewed significance. Starting from a renewed “green blue” culture\, new urban visions can be built\, oriented towards the well-being of the city-port-territory-community system. \nAfter the institutional greetings by Andrea Annunziata\, President of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority\, and Edoardo Cosenza\, Councillor for Infrastructure\, Mobility and Civil Protection of the Municipality of Naples\, the debate will begin\, moderated by Massimo Clemente\, Director of CNR-IRISS and Scientific Director of RETE\, and Barbara Bonciani\, Councillor for the port and port-city integration of the Municipality of Livorno\, member of both the Management Board and the Scientific Committee of RETE. \nSpeakers will include: Salvatore Capasso\, Director of CNR-Ismed – Institute for Mediterranean Studies; Maria Cerreta\, Coordinator of the Master in Sustainable Planning and Design of Port Areas\, University of Naples Federico II\, member of the Scientific Committee of RETE ; Figen Ayan\, President of MedCruise – Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports; Angelo D’Amato\, Perseveranza S.p.A.; Umberto Masucci\, President of the International Propeller Club Port of Naples;  Maria Paradiso\, Professor of economic and political geography\, University of Naples Federico II. \nTo attend the event in person\, it is necessary to register by sending an email to registration.event@iriss.cnr.it\, to be in possession of a green pass and to wear an FFP2 mask. \nThe seminar will also be streamed on RETE’s YouTube channel \nDownload the programme \n

SUMMARY:Participation of RETE at Blue Economy Summit (13-16 October 2021)
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday 13 October Massimo Clemente\, Director of CNR IRISS and Scientific Director of RETE\, and Maria Cerreta\, Professor of Quantity Surveying and Evaluation at the Department of Architecture (DiARC) of the University of Naples Federico II\, and member of the Scientific Committee of RETE\, will take part in Blue Economy Summit\, which will be held from 13 to 16 October at the Genova Blue District. \nThe initiative\, sponsored by RETE and CNR IRISS\, aims at raising awareness on the development\, employment and vocational training opportunities deriving from the Blue Economy\, which will play a strategic role in the recovery phase for Genoa and\, more generally\, for cities and territories with a maritime vocation\, in order to overcome the economic setback recorded in the post-pandemic period. \nThrough a series of events such as conferences\, workshops\, informative events and networking initiatives\, the fourth edition of the Blue Economy Summit aims to promote the synergy between local processes and scientific\, technical and entrepreneurial resources for the creation of skills\, research\, technology transfer and sustainable innovation in the Blue Economy. \nAfter the opening session\, Maria Cerreta will present the activities of the Second Level Master Course in Sustainable Planning and Design of Port Areas of the Department of Architecture (DiARC) Federico II\, of which she is coordinator\, which has activated a thesis workshop with the aim of exploring the potential of the circular city model applied to the city-port system\, with attention to the specificities of the context and the opportunities that can be generated. The contribution will be an opportunity to share an example of the experiments carried out. \nThis intervention will be followed in the afternoon by the lecture by Massimo Clemente\, who will present a methodology for investigating the Campania regional coastline based on the vision from the sea\, which considers the land-sea system in its unity of marine and coastal landscape. The sea-coast-ports and maritime culture system constitutes a “maritime cultural landscape”\, understood as a common good. This implies both the need to involve urban and maritime communities in its care and protection\, and the attempt to activate them for the construction of a collaborative governance model for the city-port relationship. \nAmong the macro-themes addressed in the three-day event: \n\nDevelopment prospects of the Port of Genoa\nRedevelopment and enhancement of the waterfront of the port areas and the coastline\nEnvironment and sustainability of the maritime ecosystem: ideas\, safeguard paths involving the protagonists of the Blue economy\nDevelopment of nautical sports and new models for the sustainable use of the sea resource\nThe re-launch of tourism coming from and for the sea\nA sea of opportunities: start-ups and open innovation in the blue economy sector\n\nRegistration \nProgramme \n

SUMMARY:Participation of RETE to Green Blue Days (13-15 October 2021)
DESCRIPTION:RETE is a partner of Green Blue Days\, a multiannual project-event for systemic sustainability\, structured in the form of workshops and talks where you can listen and share experiences\, propose solutions\, study action plans to integrate the culture of Green and Blue in all aspects of life. The first edition\, under the scientific coordination of the CNR IRISS\, will take place in Naples at the monumental complex of San Domenico Maggiore from 13 to 15 October 2021. \nOn Thursday 14th October RETE will be present at TALK 16 “Eco-system port city RETE: community\, logistics\, work and ports”. The destiny of the ports is inseparable from that of the cities and territories in which they are located. Never before have cities and ports been called upon to face common challenges\, the outcome of which will depend to a large extent on the will to undertake programmes and actions aimed at shared objectives of competitiveness and social cohesion\, that is to say the capacity to recognise and act as a single community.
